Summer 2009 Chapter House Updates

Great things happened at the chapter house this summer:

  • We have a new checkerboard floor downstairs, after many years. It is the same checkerboard pattern, just fresh and new.
  • As some of you may know, we've engaged the services of a professional cleaning company, Town and Country Services of Chapel Hill. They will of course come in daily during the school year, but over the summer they have also steam cleaned and power washed carpets, floors and bathrooms, cleaned windows, and professionally cleaned the upholstered furniture.
  • The back TV room was redecorated. Don't worry, we kept the signature red walls -- but we've recovered your well-loved sectional and ottomans, and added a new area rug and accent pieces.
  • The fingerprint-access locks for the front, patio and upstairs hallway doors are installed and operational. AXO is the only sorority in Chapel Hill with this state-of-the-art security system. All other locks have been replaced with deadbolts and/or "Prop" alarms, to prevent the security risk that exists when doors are propped open for non-sisters to enter.
  • Additional sundown-sunup automatic lighting was added in the back parking lot and along the Annex property.
  • The upstairs has an improved recycling process and proper equipment.
  • The upstairs janitorial closet has been cleaned, painted and stocked with typical household supplies.
  • The upstairs bathrooms were painted -- walls, shelving, and trim. 16 thick cotton bath rugs have replaced the black sani-kleen mats.

We have received the Move-in Date for Fall 2009 from the university's Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, which sets this date for all Greek groups. This date is Thursday, August 20, for Executive Officers and then Friday, August 21, for all other residents. This applies to the main residence. Due to continued house improvements and pre-semester cleaning, no additional advance storage is available this summer.

Summer 2008 Chapter House Updates

A number of great improvements happened at the Alpha Chi Omega house this summer! As some of you know, the lower level storage area has new closets and cabinets, and a special storage area was created for the dining room chairs. New paint went on MANY walls -- touchups and cleanups all over, plus more dining room tables and a new front door!  The Alpha Chi Omega National Housing Corporation, which owns the chapter house, invested in excess of $20 K in these updates.

What's really exciting, though, is a full audio/video installation for the dining room and bay window area! This installation should be in place before Fall Recruitment. Here is some of what's included:

        • Ceiling-mounted projector
        • In-ceiling and mounted speakers
        • wireless microphone
        • DVD player and Ipod dock
        • Motorized 133" screen

This system will benefit the chapter in a variety of ways, primarily during chapter meetings. Chapter meetings will now be more efficient and engaging with a variety of multimedia tools! Additionally, this installation will create a space to host numerous sisterhood events! We are so excited about the new opportunities this system presents!

Epsilon Chi Wins Top National Award!

We are pleased to report that the Epsilon Chi chapter at UNC-CH won the National Council Trophy, on Monday July 14, 2008, in Scottsdale, Arizona.

2008-7-16023

It's a tremendous honor, the highest award a collegiate chapter can earn in Alpha Chi Omega. It is awarded for excellence in all areas of chapter life: from programming to participation, recruitment to risk management , finances to facilities. The chapter last won the Trophy in 1988.

Margaret Rahn and Kelly Brewer accepted the award on behalf of the chapter. More photos are available on the chapter facebook page, http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=2200059565.
